We asked Google's AI assistant the question a customer asks: “Who are the best plumbers in Tampa, Florida? I need one this week.” We did it for 6 trades in 10 Florida cities, then compared each answer with the businesses Google Maps shows for the same search. One reading, taken 13 October 2026.

What the named businesses have in common

In most cities and trades, the businesses AI named have several times more Google reviews than the typical business on the map. AI assistants answer from what the web says about a business: its reviews, its listings, and a website they can read. A business with a thin footprint is easy to leave out.
